Wychmere Beach Club Wedding

Nina + Austin’s Wychmere Beach Club Wedding on Cape Cod

There are some wedding venues that immediately give you a sense of place, and Wychmere Beach Club on Cape Cod is absolutely one of them. Set along the water in Harwich Port, Wychmere has that quintessential New England coastal feeling—sweeping harbor views, salty air, soft neutral tones, and the kind of effortless seaside atmosphere that feels unmistakably Cape Cod.

Nina and Austin’s wedding was such a beautiful reflection of that setting. Their day felt elegant without being overly formal, coastal without leaning too heavily into a theme, and, most importantly, completely centered around the people they love.

As a photographer who grew up in New England and returns every summer for weddings, photographing a Wychmere Beach Club wedding feels especially familiar to me. Cape Cod has a very particular kind of summer magic, and Wychmere gives you a little bit of everything that makes this part of Massachusetts so special.

A Wychmere Beach Club Wedding in Harwich Port

Located in Harwich Port, Massachusetts, Wychmere Beach Club sits directly along the water, with views stretching across Wychmere Harbor and Nantucket Sound. The property offers several waterfront wedding spaces, including the Harbor Room, Ocean Room, and Dune, each with its own take on classic Cape Cod style.

For couples looking for a Cape Cod wedding venue, one of the things I love most about Wychmere is how much variety exists within a single property.

You can move from bright, airy indoor spaces to waterfront terraces, docks, beach scenery, and open harbor views without ever needing to leave the venue. From a photography perspective, that variety is such a gift. It allows the wedding gallery to feel cohesive while still giving couples plenty of different backdrops throughout the day.

And because so much of Wychmere is designed around the water, you never really lose that sense that you’re celebrating on Cape Cod.

Getting Ready at Wychmere

Nina began the day getting ready with her bridesmaids, and the atmosphere was exactly what I love about wedding mornings: excited but relaxed, with everyone slowly settling into the realization that the day they had been planning for so long was finally here.

These quieter hours are always some of my favorites to photograph. The finishing touches, the dress hanging before it is put on, friends helping with jewelry, champagne being poured, parents popping into the room—it’s often where so many of the small, personal moments happen.

I approach this part of the day with a mostly documentary eye, stepping in with direction when it’s useful but otherwise allowing things to unfold naturally.

A Classic Cape Cod Wedding Setting

Wychmere strikes a balance that can be surprisingly difficult to find in a waterfront venue.

It very clearly feels like a Cape Cod wedding venue, but it doesn’t rely on overtly nautical décor to create that feeling. Instead, much of the character comes from the landscape itself: weathered docks, hydrangeas, white architecture, sand, harbor views and the changing light over the water.

The venue describes its wedding spaces as combining classic Cape Cod Americana with nautical glamour, and that combination translates beautifully in photographs.

For Nina and Austin, it created an understated backdrop that allowed their wedding design—and the people within it—to remain the focus.

Wedding Portraits Along Wychmere Harbor

One of the biggest advantages of having a wedding at Wychmere Beach Club is the sheer number of portrait locations available without having to build additional travel into the timeline.

We photographed Nina and Austin around the property and along the waterfront, using the harbor and classic Cape architecture as the backdrop.

For couples who want wedding portraits that feel distinctly New England without feeling overly posed, this type of setting works beautifully. There is already so much texture and movement happening around you—the boats in the harbor, the breeze off the water, the light reflecting across the docks—that the photographs can remain simple.

My approach to portraits is always to give enough direction that you never have to wonder what to do with your hands, while leaving enough space for the two of you to actually interact with each other.

Especially somewhere like Wychmere, I want the photographs to capture not only what the two of you looked like on your wedding day, but what it felt like to be there.

Why Wychmere Beach Club Is Such a Beautiful Cape Cod Wedding Venue

Couples planning a Cape Cod wedding have no shortage of waterfront venues to choose from, but Wychmere is particularly well suited to couples who want the classic New England experience with a more polished, resort-like feel.

The property has three primary wedding venues—Dune, the Harbor Room, and the Ocean Room—with options ranging from panoramic ocean views and rooftop terraces to classic harborside interiors.

From a wedding photographer’s perspective, a few things make Wychmere stand out:

The waterfront is part of the entire experience. Rather than having one designated spot for water views, the harbor and Nantucket Sound appear throughout the property.

There is excellent variety for photographs. Beach, harbor, architecture, docks, terraces and bright interiors all exist within one venue.

The neutral spaces photograph beautifully. White, sand and natural wood tones allow florals, fashion and personal details to stand out instead of competing with the room.

It feels unmistakably like Cape Cod. For couples choosing the Cape because they have a personal connection to New England—or simply love the idea of gathering everyone together by the ocean—the setting feels like part of the story rather than simply a backdrop.

Planning Wedding Photos at Wychmere Beach Club

If you’re getting married at Wychmere, one thing I recommend is building a little breathing room into your photography timeline.

You don’t necessarily need hours for portraits. In fact, I generally prefer keeping portrait time efficient so couples can spend as much of their wedding day as possible actually enjoying it.

But Wychmere has enough beautiful locations that having even an extra ten or fifteen minutes can give us the flexibility to walk toward the harbor, use a different area of the property, or take advantage of particularly beautiful light without feeling rushed.

If possible, I also love sneaking couples outside again later in the evening. The light along the Cape changes dramatically throughout the day, and a five-minute walk at sunset can create photographs that feel completely different from anything we made earlier.

A Summer Wedding on Cape Cod

As the day moved into the reception, Nina and Austin were finally able to simply celebrate.

And this is usually when I shift almost completely into documentary mode.

The speeches, hugs, reactions during dances, friends finding one another across the room, and increasingly enthusiastic dance floor are the parts of a wedding that simply cannot be recreated later. My goal is to be close enough to catch them while remaining unobtrusive enough that nobody is performing for the camera.

At the end of the day, a beautiful venue matters—but the photographs that tend to become the most important are often the ones that show the people who filled it.

Nina and Austin’s Wychmere Beach Club wedding had both: an incredible Cape Cod setting and a celebration that felt warm, joyful and completely their own.

I photograph weddings throughout Cape Cod, coastal Massachusetts and New England, with an approach that blends emotional documentary photography, thoughtful direction and timeless imagery. Having grown up in New England, photographing weddings here always feels a little bit like coming home.
